How safe the homeopathic medicines?

Homeopathy medicines are prepared in three scales.

       1.Centesimal (C)

Most common is centesimal scale. Here medicine is diluted 100 times.1 part of medicine+ 99 parts of solvent (distilled water or ethyl alcohol) +    10  Succession (vigorous shaking)= 1C1 part from 1C + 99 parts of solvent (distilled water or ethyl alcohol) + 10 Succession (vigorous shaking)=    2C.This is called ‘series of dilution’Arnica 30 C means in this series the Arnica medicine has been diluted 30 times.Hence homeopathic                  medicines  are also called ‘dilutions’. The process is called ‘dynamization’ or ‘potentization’.

Now any lay man can say that homeopathic medicines are harmless. Because these are the mere dilutions.Hahnemann first started to employ ‘similar’ medicines around 1790 and 8 years later began to experiment with gradual reductions in material dosage. As a physician, he clearly became increasingly satisfied with the results of using dynamized medicines In 1816, 30c makes its first appearance and this remained his most extensively used and most highly recommended potency of all time. Now available are 30,200,1m,10m,50m,cm,dm,mm etc.

What is the proof that these dilutions are potent enough to cure chronic disease?

IIT scientists have said that the homeopathic medicines work on the principle of nanotechnology. (2010)Homeopathic pills containing metals such as gold, copper and iron retain their potency even when diluted to a nanometer or one-billionth of a metre, states the IIT-Bombay research published in the latest issue of ‘Homeopathy’, a peer-reviewed journal.IIT-B’s chemical engineering department bought homeopathic pills from neighborhood shops, prepared highly diluted solutions and checked these under powerful electron microscopes to find nanoparticles of the original metal.Prashant Chikramane, presented the homeopathy paper titled, ‘Extreme homeopathic dilutions retain starting materials: A nanoparticulate perspective‘, as part of his doctoral thesis. The paper reports the fascinating observation that certain high potency (highly diluted) homeopathic remedies made from metals still contain measurable amounts of the starting material, even at extreme dilutions of 1 part in 10 raised to 400 parts (200C).  It is well known that a series of 1:99 dilutions done sequentially will produce a significant dilution of the starting material in very short order. Specifically, if the starting material is at one molar concentration (6.023x10e23 molecules per liter), then at about the 12th dilution (12C) there should be no or very nearly no molecules left of the starting material. At 200th dilution (200C) the likelihood of there being even one atom of the starting material approaches zero. However, dilution does not work so simply, according to this paper. Using electron microscopy (TEM), electron diffraction, and atomic spectroscopy, Chikramane et al. found that, contrary to the arithmetic, there are nanogram quantities of the starting material still present in these ‘high potency’ remedies in the form of nanoparticles. 1.Nano doses of medicinal agents have several benefits over crude doses of the same substance, including enhanced bioavailability, chemical and biological reactivity, absorptive capacity, intracellular accessibility, increased ability to cross cell membranes and even the blood brain barrier, and of course, a substantial better safety profile (because of reduced toxicity) [7].

2.Nanoparticles can distinguish between healthy and unhealthy cells while bulk concentrations of medicine cannot.
